In 1986, Paradise Valley United Methodist Church Preschool received acceptance into the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, the only national accreditation program existing today. The Academy, a part of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, sets the standards of excellence in Early Childhood Education. The Academy reviews our program each year and reaccredidation is completed every fifth year. The ten components of the accreditation process includes: (1) interactions among staff and children, (2) curriculum, (3) staff-parent interaction, (4) staff qualifications and development, (5) administration, (6) staffing, (7) physical environment (8) health and safety, (9) nutrition and food service, and (10) evaluations. Curriculum. We believe that a good Preschool program recognizes that children are not to be molded but unfolded. PVUMC Preschool provides a caring community that encourages such individual development through play and student participation. We foster creativity in all areas (language, arts, music etc.) while helping our children respect the rights of others. We also have special activities throughout the year that are unique to our school and further enhance the childrens learning experience. These include Spirit Days, Fathers Saturday, Snow Day and holiday celebrations, among others. Every day PVUMC Preschool provides time and equipment necessary to stimulate and enrich the childrens play. Teachers and staff provide hands-on experiences which require the use of all five senses. The Preschool encourages creative thinking processes and facilitates the expression of thoughts in song, dance, language and art. For further information, please refer to our Curriculum.

PVUMC strives to have small classes in order to promote the one on one teacher/child interaction that is so important in early childhood development. Our two year old classes are typically 13 children to 1 lead teacher and 1 aide. In our three year old classes, we average about 16 to 17 children to 2 teachers. Our 4 year and older classes average about 22 children to 2 teachers and 1 aide.
PVUMC Preschool is committed to the spiritual development of our children and encourages the sharing of all faiths. Some of the ways that faith is incorporated into our activities include prayer before meals and snacks and the celebration of religious holidays, including a Christmas pageant. The Preschool also offers the opportunity for spiritual enrichment outside of the classroom with our Littlest Angel's Chapel Time and our Godly Play program. Littlest Angel's Chapel is offered weekly during the preschool morning as part of the preschool's curriculum. Children gather with other classrooms to participate in bible scriptures, song and prayer. It is held in the Chapel and led by Preschool Director Mindy Sobraske and the music by Quint Harris. The younger classes participate directly in their classrooms once a week. Godly Play is a voluntary After School program that enhances our philosophy of a caring community through stories from the Bible.
Enrollment is open to all children regardless of ethnic or religious background. We encourage the sharing of many different faiths. When we have a place for your child we will call you and request the registration fee be sent. No place is secure until the full registration fee is paid. Enrollment is usually completed in March. For information regarding enrollment, please contact Preschool Director Mindy Sobraske at (602) 840-8265. Due to our small class size, PVUMC Preschool has established a priority for class placement. Priority is determined by the date the application for preschool is received and processed by the Preschool Director for that individual child. PRIORITY FOR ADMITTANCE INTO THE PRESCHOOL Priority is determined by the date the application for preschool is received and processed by the Preschool Director for that individual child.
